Michelle Jones GTA Tennis Instructor

Michelle Jones is a USPTA teaching professional and a former collegiate player and coach. She has been teaching tennis for almost 25 years. She coached at the collegiate level for five years and has been teaching at clubs and public tennis facilities for the past fifteen years. As a collegiate coach, her team won two OVC Conference Championships. As a teaching professional, she has coached several state and regionally ranked juniors, has coached USTA adult league teams, has coached several junior team tennis teams, and run many leagues and tournaments. As a player, she is a 4.5 player who has won many tournaments in Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia. She currently serves as the Junior Team Tennis Coordinator and runs the After School Tennis Program at area elementary schools and teaches private lessons and clinics in Georgetown. She won Junior Program Coordinator of the Year for the state of Georgia and received 7 grants for community tennis in Georgia. She coaches the boys’ tennis team at Scott County High School. She is married to Warrick and has two boys, Samuel and Benjamin, both who are ranked junior tennis players.

  • Winner of Banana Open doubles, Hilton Head, SC and runner-up in Banana Open singles, Hilton Head, SC, 2010
  • Winner of Frank Pancake Award (given to player who accumulates the most overall points in the Staunton/News Leader Tournament, won singles, doubles, lost in finals of mixed), 2005
  • Winner of 25s USTA Team Intersectional Championships, 2000
  • All-Conference Player in Gulf South Conference at UT Martin, 1988
  • Recipient of the Bettye Giles Award at UT Martin (outstanding athlete of the year who exhibits excellence athletically and academically), 1989-90
  • Women’s Athletics Junior Academic Award at UT Martin (Junior with highest GPA-3.36), 1989-90
  • Recipient of the James C. Henson Tennis Award (tennis player epitomizing combined excellence in scholarship, athletic achievement, sportsmanship, and character), 1990
